Everest madness

The Everest climbing season has just begun and there are already several deaths. The overcrowding of recent years is becoming highly dangerous.

This overcrowding is preventing those who have reached the summit from descending.

Climbers share the same route up and down. A high volume of climbers can create bottlenecks, especially in the death zone where thin air & extreme cold already make climbing dangerous. Getting stuck in a bottleneck increases the risk of altitude sickness, exhaustion and can be fatal.

The Everest climbing permit costs around $11,000 (increasing to $15,000 in 2025). While there have been discussions about reducing permits in the future, the number of climbers for 2024 likely remains high. $11.000 for the permit only. Climbing Everest can cost anywhere between $50,000 and $200,000 or even more, depending on the level of experience, chosen services, and unexpected expenses.

These people are not mountaineers, but rather wealthy tourists who only put the lives of mountaineers who have been preparing for years at serious risk.
